Main Purpose of Role

 

To effectively manage the site-based activities safely, efficiently, within budget and to schedule. To ensure this is undertaken consistent with company procedures, good practice, and statutory legislation and to contractual obligations. To undertake and control the larger scale or technical construction projects within the business running larger scale site management teams and site resource numbers.

 

Key Responsibilities (max 10)

 

Assist the Project Team in the management of the contract in all aspects of the following items but not limited to:

 

  1. SHE

·         Ensure compliance with the Company Operating Procedures, Company Quality Assurance

·         Procedures, Statutory Safety Legislation, good practice and the contractual responsibilities.

 

  1. Programme

·         Manage and monitor the progress of the site activities and take action to ensure progressive deadlines are met in accordance with the programme requirements and ensure an on-time Project Delivery.

 

  1. Client Expectations

·         To manage Client expectations and to be the first port of call for the client. To provide support to Project Team at meetings.

·         Plant Management, Labour Control - Review all labour/plant & equipment levels on an ongoing basis and keep to an effective and efficient level.

·          

  1. Other Responsibilities

 

-       Liaise with the project team to review and understand the Site Programme and phased including any site-specific constraints.

-       Ensure RAMS/task briefings/lift plans/permit systems are in place and being worked to by operatives with particular emphasis being on the implementation of the necessary control measures.

-       Ensure that prior to starting the work the principal contractor has supplied and signed a SafeSite Certification Sheet.

-       Ensure the project Team approval is sought prior to changing any aspect of labour/plant/specialist packages when the project is live on site.

-       Ensure compliance with the company operating procedures.

-       Budget – to have a good awareness of Site budget and ensure it is adhered to.

-       Ensuring the sequence of deliveries are organised and come in as per the programme.

 

Educational background required

 

  • Basic level of English and Maths skills – good knowledge and IT experience would be ideal. 
  • Have an NVQ level 5 or working towards it.

 

Job related experience required

 

  • Experience with working in Steel – 10-15 years (Desirable).
  • Must hold a minimum or black management card.

What are the specific Safety Responsibilities of this role? (a request from group SHE that we document this as part of this process)

Responsible for all the main parts of the projects, RAMS, permits, Exclusion Zones, Crane plans and resource including sub-contractors. Control of larger site management teams on higher level projects. Dividing the team between the site packages to achieve the most efficient and effective working team.

 

Application of Knowledge - How the level of knowledge required for this role is applied / used within the role. 

Following company procedures e.g. RAMS– they would have an input in any changes that are being made to the procedures but would not own the procedures.

Have a wide range of experience on different types of builds. Broad technical understanding of all the roles of construction across the sites.

 

Problem Solving and Innovation - Describe the level of problem solving that the role requires and provide examples of why.

Retraining of site resources. The Site Managers responsibility to develop a solution to problems raising NCR’s and support the project manager.  Looking at methods to resolve the problems. They are the first port of call if something is not going to plan. Would escalate the problem if it was to involve the building/design.

 

Interaction - Briefly describe the nature of interaction that the role requires.

Client, package managers, project managers, construction manager, QS, on site teams (erection teams, wrap up teams, deckers, netters, stud welders and painters.

Written, IT, emails, programs, Word, excel sheets, verbal.

 

Impact - Briefly describe the level of Impact that the role requires.

  • High – without site manager the main contractor would not allow employees on site unmanaged. Depending on client expectations when numbers are low due to wrap up or revisits.
  • Face of the site for Severfield – safety aspect wise. Medium term goals.
