What You Will Contribute To Altos

An exciting opportunity is available for a talented Director / Senior Director to join the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Development Sciences team at Altos Labs.

We are seeking very highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individuals who are passionate and dedicated to employing their expertise to restore cell health and resilience and reverse disease. This position will be part of a multidisciplinary team within the IOM to develop novel therapeutic projects and pipelines at Altos. The candidate will work in a highly dynamic and cross-functional environment that requires collaboration with the Institutes of Science and may span multiple therapeutic areas and therapeutic modalities. The successful candidate will have strong scientific training, be adept with working with traditional and non-traditional therapeutic modalities, and a demonstrated track record of leading Toxicology groups in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Toxicology strategies and build infrastructure to support discovery and development programs using internal resources and CROs
  • Recruit scientists and build a team to support Toxicology strategy across the three Altos sites (Toxicology, Pathology, Nonclinical Operations), to ensure delivery of high quality data packages in support of target validation through to regulatory filings
  • Conduct target safety assessments for early therapeutic targets, and work closely with laboratories in the Institutes of Science to understand and derisk the safety of targets early on
  • Plan and execute in vitro safety screens to lead optimize small molecules, ASOs and gene therapy vectors
  • Work closely with CROs to coordinate and manage external toxicology studies
  • Represent Toxicology in multifunctional discovery and early development project teams
  • Effective cross-functional collaboration, especially with Institutes of Science, In Vivo Pharmacology and DMPK, in the optimization of drug leads and candidates
  • Contribute to the cross-functional review of regulatory documents and author and review Toxicology sections for relevant regulatory documents
  • Recommend, initiate, lead and champion new innovations to ensure relevant cutting-edge science is applied to project related issues
  • Create and foster strong partnerships with groups at the Institutes of Science
  • Contributes to a team culture that promotes continuous improvement, ownership, professional growth, and inclusion

 Who You Are

Qualifications

  • PhD in Toxicology, Pharmacology or related sciences (or DVM) and a minimum of 10-15+ years of industry experience in Toxicology
  • Deep expertise in Discovery Toxicology, with demonstrated ability to work effectively with early research teams
  • Strong scientific aptitude and ability to implement investigative strategies to elucidate mechanisms of toxicity
  • Demonstrated ability to build, manage and lead groups responsible for supporting Toxicology deliverables in a team setting
  • Demonstrated understanding and established level of expertise employing preclinical models
  • Experience with small molecule safety lead optimization and investigative toxicology efforts
  • Strong knowledge and agility in study design and data interpretation and in the integration of Toxicology studies in the drug progression paradigm, as well as in the incorporation of safety endpoints in pharmacology studies
  • 3Rs-centered, welfare-oriented approach to animal-based research
  • A critical thinker with the ability to analyze possibilities and solutions and make pragmatic trade-off
  • Clear and influential communicator: exceptional influencing skills that demonstrate strong thought partnership and create effective relationships with internal and external groups and individuals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working across diverse therapeutic modalities, including small molecules, biotherapeutics, nucleic acid therapeutics, and gene therapy is highly desirable
  • Project team leadership experience in the discovery space is highly desirable

 

The salary range for Redwood City, CA:

  • Director: $265,200 - $358,800
  • Senior Director: $324,700 - $439,300
