AltPep Corporation is a biotechnology startup based along Seattle’s Lake Union focused on developing early disease-modifying treatments and detection tools for amyloid diseases by targeting one of the earliest molecular triggers – toxic soluble oligomers. These toxic oligomers are associated with many diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases and type 2 diabetes.

AltPep draws its origins to Dr. Valerie Daggett’s lab at the University of Washington’s (UW) Bioengineering Department. Since spinning out from the UW, the company has raised significant capital expanded its staff, and is currently seeking to expand at its headquarters located in a new state-of-the art facility on the Eastside Lake Union in Seattle.

We are looking for talented Medical Technologists to join our team.

The ideal candidate will be an intellectually curious and creative individual that is comfortable in both research and development laboratory environments and in a CLIA laboratory setting validating and implementing Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs). We are looking for a problem-solver who is comfortable with a cross-functional role. The main focus of the candidate’s responsibilities will be on ELISA-like diagnostics technologies.

The responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Helping to implement and perform standard operating procedures for pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic processes. Examples include specimen collection, handling, processing, data analysis, and result reporting.
  • Completing activities related to implementation of the laboratory quality management system
  • Assist in data collection and processing related to validation and verification studies for diagnostic methods.
  • Compliance with all laboratory procedures including but not limited to specimen collection, handling, processing, data analysis, and result reporting.
  • Implementation and adherence to quality control policies including documentation requirements.
  • Implementation of adherence to the quality assurance policies and procedures including data collection of key Quality Indicators at required frequencies.
  • Performance and documentation of all required instrument maintenance, calibration, and qualifications.
  • Assist, engage, and participate in identifying and troubleshooting issues that potentially impact laboratory operational effectiveness and test performance. 
  • Maintaining effective communication with all levels of the organization and suggesting, making corrections or notifying the Lab Manager and/or Lab Director when concerns arise.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and distributing necessary laboratory supplies and reagents and keeping the laboratory stocked appropriately.
  • Compliance with Accreditation and CLIA certification requirements (such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP) checklists and CLIA regulations).  
  • Supporting the Laboratory’s regulatory obligations through performance of all required duties as specified for testing personnel for the applicable complexity of CLIA-regulated activities.
  • Assisting in preparation and participation in regulatory and compliance audits.
  • Adhering to safety policies as defined by OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
  • Minimum education and professional requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Qualification meeting CLIA High-Complexity Testing Personnel requirements
    • 2 years clinical laboratory experience in a CLIA High Complexity Testing Laboratory
    • Experience in assisting with activities related to CLIA-certification and Accreditation such as audits from accrediting bodies like the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
    • Bachelor's Degree with MT or equivalent certification (ASCP); or Fifty-week military Medical Laboratory Procedures course and meet qualifications for military enlisted occupational specialty of "Medical Laboratory Specialist"; Registered Medical Technologists (M.T.) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other recognized certification agency of medical laboratory professionals preferred.
    • A familiarity with Medical Testing Site registration and CLIA certification requirements in Washington State, or more generally with CAP Accreditation.
    • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  •  Preferred education and professional requirements include the following:
    • Research experience is preferred
    • LDT Development and Validation
    • Experience with ELISA-based test methods
    • Experience in structural biology and analytical chemistry
    • Familiarity with immunochemistry assays and automation equipment
    • Familiarity with Data Visualization such as Power BI

We offer competitive compensation for those joining our fight, The compensation range for a Medical Technologist is $70,000-$90,000 and is dependent on experience.
