The Opportunity

Brunswick Arts is one of the eight sector offerings of Brunswick Group, an advisory firm specialising in critical issues and corporate relations: a global partnership with 23 offices in 14 countries. The Leadership team is led by Pete Dillon, based in New York. London team is led by Claire Walsh.

As part of our specialist arts team, you will lead on the development and delivery of strategic communications plans and provide senior-level advice to a broad range of cultural organisations, funders and businesses operating in the arts. This position offers the business an informed view of the role culture in society and the power of the creative industries, drawing on available knowledge and specialist advisors available within our network to take clients the best, business critical advise and thinking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive execution on client accounts within the UK and international Brunswick Arts leadership team, managing workflow and key elements (e.g., narrative and strategy development work, building strong trusted relationships with clients, development of high-quality documents, etc.).
  • Advise Brunswick Arts and select Brunswick clients across a range of issues and communications disciplines, with the support of other senior colleagues Directors/Partners, and drawing on independent experience and insights.
  • Understand complex sector issues and the attitude of media, politicians/regulators, funders (both public and private) and other stakeholder groups.
  • Manage complex media and policy-related interactions, using advanced knowledge of media and other stakeholder landscapes, bringing a can-do attitude to media campaigning – both supporting the junior team and proactively liaising with your media network on behalf of the business.
  • Play a key role in team management and dynamics, including supporting smooth team transitions, and serving as a day-to-day mentor to junior team members.
  • Play an active role in drafting new business proposals and letters of engagement, including participating in pitch meetings.
  • Foster a network of journalist and stakeholder contacts and relationships, proactively building a network to identify new business prospects and media contacts.
  • Together with the London team, supporting the international B’Arts Leadership team, proactively drive the strategic growth of Brunswick Art’s practice group, internal network and offer to clients.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • 6–8 years of relevant experience either working in a communications, brand, content or marketing role within the cultural sector or related industries, or consulting experience advising cultural sector clients.
  • An understanding of key issues pertaining to arts and culture is essential; e.g., the interplay between the arts, business, public and government in the UK, representation and access, the global art market, restitution and representation, funding and business models for arts organisations, corporate partnerships and content programmes, leadership profiling, etc.
  • A strong sense of corporate positioning of Creative Industries organisations/businesses, with experience in developing strategies that can translate into programmes with sustained impact – across multiple channels; digital, media, events, partnerships, etc.
  • Knowledge of the arts media landscape – from national titles and broadcast through to specialist trade titles, with experience in media-handling essential.
  • A commitment to working collaboratively with a small and impactful team; sharing intel and news with colleagues, building awareness of the growing Brunswick Arts offer with other Brunswick sectors.
  • Ability to operate effectively in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment – across a broad range of cultural content and with different external clients, handling different external cultures well and professionally.  
  • A strong verbal and written communicator with high EQ levels and an engaging presentation style.
  • A global perspective and able to thrive in an international businesses or organisations.
  • Credible and compelling with senior business leaders.
  • A balance of creative and analytical thinking, bringing rigor, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Proven project and/or program management experience.
  • A natural team-worker who prefers to work in a collegiate way.
