Position: Chargehand

Reporting to: Site Supervisor             Department: Construction

 

Job Purpose:

The chargehand is to assist the foreman and ensure persons working within the team are working consistently within company procedures while also following good practice and statutory legislation.

In essence the role of the chargehand is the same as the foreman however it is to assist and support as well as carrying out of steel erector activities.

Key Objectives:

Assist the Site Management Team in the safe and timely completion of any work requested in all aspects of the following items, but not limited to:

  • SHE – Safety, Health and Environment
  • Programme
  • Quality
  • On time project delivery through personnel management

 

 

  • Ensure RAMS / task briefings / lift plans / permit systems are in place and being worked to by operatives with particular emphasis being on the implementation of the necessary measures.
  • Ensure a robust task briefing sheet is completed and signed by all members of your team prior to any work Ensuring work area hazard assessments are carried out.
  • Ensure all labour under your control are adequately trained for the
  • Ensure plant, equipment and PPE are utilised as appropriate and in line with company procedures and current
  • Ensure persons working under your control are carrying out their duties in a manner that does not endanger themselves or
  • Ensure that all work areas are suitably cornered off (barriers and signage) to prevent access from unauthorised
  • Being aware of and ensuring squad compliance with project / company policies and
  • Ensure site file 3 is fully populated and daily / weekly checks are carried out and recorded including items such as PPE checks, plant checks and electrical equipment
  • Ensure all accidents, incidents or near misses are reported immediately to the Site Management
  • Recognising, addressing and resolving issues / problems among / between squad
  • Ensure all company quality procedures are being followed e. Bolt connections check sheets, Seversafe check sheets – Raising of faults (NCR’s)
  • Ensure all work carried out by those under your control is to a suitable high standard of quality befitting
  • Ensure correct GA drawings, bolt location lists, temp works sequences are being followed.
  • Counselling and mentoring of juniors and trainees under your
  • Keep records as required to protect the company’s interest, such as piece counts/ crane use / down time / delays / O being worked on.
  • Maintaining work standards and outlining behaviour expectations to ensure squad morale and
  • Working with your squad to overcome work challenges and reassess daily goals to meet forecasted
  • Liaise closely with the Site Manager / Supervisor to ensure material deliveries are ordered to maximise site progress and
  • Ensure site management is made aware of lateness / absenteeism of your team
  • Ensure use of Donseed system
  • Ensure compliance with site working hours and shift patterns from you and your team including adhering to break
  • Ensure your team members have suitable equipment to carry out the tasks
  • Ensure orders for new equipment / PPE are requested through the Site Management
  • Ensure all tools and equipment under your control are signed for and kept to a high standard – Any damage or losses should be reported to Site Management with immediate
  • Ensure all plant being used by you has been checked with the relevant documentation completed, prior to use – Report and damage to site management with immediate
