Position Overview
SFM seeks an experienced and highly skilled Data Architect to design and implement data solutions that support our core investment strategies, risk processes, and research needs. In this role, you will partner with business users to understand their data requirements and work within the IT team to design database schema, scalable data flows, and APIs for fast and efficient data access.

Major Responsibilities
- Establish strong relationships with the firm’s business users to understand their specific data needs while maintaining a holistic view of our overall data model and database architecture.
- Lead the design and development for our next-generation data architecture, encompassing third-party data from key vendors (e.g. Bloomberg, Refinitiv, etc.) along with core internal datasets (e.g. trades, positions, etc.)
- Work with IT to design scalable ETL processes and APIs for data ingestion and data access.
- Assist with the migration of data from legacy database technologies (SQL Server) to our cloud-based warehouse (Snowflake).
- Recommend solutions to improve the firm’s new and existing database technologies, staying current on industry trends and best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 10+ years of demonstrated expertise designing enterprise databases within the asset management space across use cases such as quantitative data analysis, risk analytics, tagging/metadata definition, etc.
- Working knowledge of common data sets used within Finance - e.g. third-party market and reference data, internal trade/position data, derived risk analytics, factor models, etc.
- Strong understanding of relational and non-relational database types as well as data modeling patterns such as data lake, data vault, star schema, etc.
- Fluency in data engineering technologies such as SQL, Python (or similar), and REST API development.
- Excellent communication skills with experience interfacing directly with stakeholders and business users.
- Able to work individually and as part of a team in a fast paced environment, and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

- Direct experience utilizing solutions such as AWS, Snowflake, FiveTran, and dbt.
- Experience working in a multi-manager hedge fund environment.
- Understanding of financial products across Equity, Fixed Income, and Derivatives

Anticipated Salary Range
We anticipate that the base salary for this role will be in the range of $175,000 - $225,000.
In addition to a base salary, the successful candidate will also be eligible to receive a discretionary year-end bonus. Available benefits include (i) a daily meal allowance, (ii) health, vision, dental and disability insurance, (iii) a generous PTO and parental leave policy, and (iii) an employer-sponsored 401k plan (eligible for employer matching).
