Legend Biotech is seeking Procurement Category Lead – R&D/Clinical as part of the Technical Operations: Sourcing & Procurement team based in Somerset, NJ. 

Role Overview

This individual will work within Technical Operations and will be responsible for the delivery and implementation of global category strategies that are aligned with Legend’s corporate strategy and financial goals. The Procurement Category Lead is accountable for the development of Sourcing & Procurement strategies, category management, supplier development & performance management, contract negotiations and stakeholder management; this role will also require the ability to produce high quality analytics and lead the end-to-end RFx life-cycle, negotiations planning and supplier management. This role will work closely with other core enabling functions such as: Discovery & Research (R&D), Early Stage & Preclinical, Clinical Development, Operations and Pharmacovigilance (PV) and other business stakeholders for the specific category assigned, and will assist with the implementation of new platforms, systems and processes that enable greater operational efficiency and accuracy. The Procurement Category Lead works with the business team to identify high performing suppliers and negotiate favorable commercial terms in line with business strategy. A successful candidate is a self-motivated, strong communicator, with the ability to pull different ideas together and challenge status-quo.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Develop and execute Sourcing & Procurement strategies at the business unit level, in line with current corporate strategy and goals, as well as with the Procurement strategy roadmap.
  • Identify value creation opportunities by developing a deep understanding of each Category requirements, challenges, and opportunities, and leveraging these insights to create and implement savings initiatives.
  • Collaborate across all levels of the organization, working seamlessly across functions, participating in project planning, aligning with stakeholder priorities, and offering Procurement/Technical guidance.
  • Assist business unit’s representatives with the development of business requirements and scope of work for sourcing initiatives.
  • Monitor supplier execution and deliverables of goods and services via implementation of Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) governance model.
  • Provide timely responses to business units’ representative(s) and suppliers inquiries.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of spend analysis, supplier performance metrics, standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Develop and implement new ways of working, optimizing current / introducing new processes or re-engineering existing ones in support of key priorities and business unit projects.
  • Establish key stakeholder relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to interact with all levels within the organization and across regions.

Requirements

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Finance, Accounting or Business.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years relevant Sourcing / Procurement experience is mandatory.
  • Strong negotiation skills & working knowledge of R&D/Clinical sourcing and contracting techniques, with a proven track record in R&D/Clinical procurement initiatives.
  • Strategic mindset with quantitative, problem-solving, project management, and negotiation skills and a strong desire for progress and continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of, and experience with, legal terms and conditions and experience negotiating information technology terms and agreements such as SaaS/Cloud agreements, Support and Maintenance Agreements, Service Level Agreements, etc.
  • Technologically savvy with the ability to quickly adopt new systems and processes. Proficient in Excel (Pivot Tables and Advanced Analytics), Word, Visio, and exposure to ERP and other financial accounting systems.
  • Ability to work independently and successfully, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, integrate cross-functional issues and balance competing priorities effectively. Must be able to manage shifting priorities to meet critical deadlines in a fast paced and dynamic, growing environment.
  • Strength in communicating and working effectively with broad stakeholders in various scientific/technical/business disciplines.
  • Strong influencing capabilities with an ability to interact and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and across different functions.
  • Ability to promote a mindset of continuous improvement, problem solving, and prevention.
  • Prior experience with Procurement Operations, Finance or Accounting Principles is highly desirable.
