About the Job

The Director of Cloud Experience at Life360 will lead the transformation of our cloud operations into a Life360 developer-centric ecosystem, emphasizing the creation of a seamless Developer Experience for utilizing Cloud as a Service (CaaS) capabilities for internal engineers. This role involves crafting state-of-the-art tooling, enabling robust cloud infrastructure solutions, and ensuring efficiency, cost optimization, compliance, alongside fostering a collaborative relationship with our cloud service provider AWS. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader adept in fast-paced environments, with a complete understanding of cloud technologies, a passion for developer advocacy, operational excellence, and a keen sense of financial and compliance standards. You enjoy engaging and helping internal cloud-users develop ever more quickly, safely and effectively using life360 cloud offering. As part of this you are listening, shaping and iterating on the Platform, Data and Ops roadmaps and technologies.

The US-based salary range for this position is $235,000 to $335,000. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining final salary – therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits, as well as equity.

What You’ll Do

  • Developer-Centric Leadership and Vision. You will collaborate closely with the Director of Ops to devise a cloud strategy that centers around developer needs, integrating business objectives with a focus on enhancing the developer experience, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Together you will shape the org and teams to dynamically achieve the goals of CaaS
  • Enhancing Developer Experience: Spearhead initiatives to elevate the Developer Experience through seamless Cloud as a Service offerings, focusing on simplifying infrastructure management, deployment processes, and providing innovative, cohesive tooling solutions to boost developer productivity and creativity.
  • Tooling and Developer Efficiency: Lead the development and implementation of advanced tooling and platforms specifically designed to enhance developer workflows, reduce friction, and promote innovation within cloud operations.
  • Advocacy and Feedback Integration: Act as a developer advocate within the organization, ensuring developer feedback and needs are central to cloud operations strategy and tooling enhancements.
  • Efficiency Tracking: You will build the reporting solutions and metrics that track and demonstrate the improvements in time to market for Cloud changes and new services.
  • Infrastructure and Developer Enablement: Ensure the cloud infrastructure supports a developer-first approach, enabling rapid prototyping, testing, and deployment capabilities, along with scalable solutions to support continuous user growth.
  • Compliance and Developer Empowerment: Guarantee compliance with standards and regulations while empowering developers with the knowledge and tools to integrate compliance seamlessly into their workflows.
  • Strategic AWS Partnership with a Developer Focus: Cultivate a strategic relationship with AWS, focusing on leveraging services and support that enhance the Developer Experience and meet Life360’s innovative needs.
  • Building Developer-Centric Capabilities: Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and developer empowerment through targeted training and mentorship.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Ensure cohesive collaboration among cloud engineers, emphasizing a developer-centric approach to cloud solutions that are integrated, efficient, and cost-effective.  Ensure adoption of the latest standards and platform improvements.
  • Budget Management with a Focus on Developer Tools: Help cloud-users manage cloud-related costs with an emphasis on investments in developer tools, performance visibility and patterns that drive efficiency and cost right-sizing.

What We’re Looking For

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, with a strong focus on software development practices and principles.
  • Overall Professional Experience: at least 10-15 years of relevant professional experience in IT, cloud operations, or related fields.
  • Specific Cloud Experience: at least 5-7 years should be directly related to cloud computing, such as hands-on experience with cloud services (like AWS, Azure, GCP), cloud architecture, and cloud service management.
  • Experience with Developer Tools and Platforms: Proven experience in enhancing the Developer Experience through innovative tooling, platforms, and processes in cloud environments, particularly with AWS.
  • Leadership in Developer-Centric Environments: Extensive leadership experience in environments focused on developer productivity, tooling, and advocacy, with a proven track record of fostering innovation and collaboration.
  • Advocacy and Community Engagement: Demonstrated ability to act as a developer advocate, with experience engaging with developer communities, collecting and integrating feedback, and driving changes that enhance the Developer Experience.
