Position: Part-Time ESL/Spanish Instructor
Start Date: April 2024
Location: Clearwater, FL
Hours: Approximately 6-15 hours per week

Position Summary:  

The Phillies are in search of a qualified part-time ESL/Spanish Instructor to support English and Spanish language initiatives across the Minor League system. The successful candidate will be dedicated to ensuring our players thrive in their professional and personal lives through language education. This position will work closely with the rest of the Education Team to foster a positive educational environment and to develop and implement curricula and lesson plans that provide real-world language and cultural education to our players. This position will be based in Clearwater, FL.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop creative and engaging lesson plans that support authentic language learning for both English and Spanish
  • Provide individualized English and Spanish instruction based in specific learning goals and needs
  • Teach individual and small-group lessons in-person and virtually
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with players to develop individual learning objectives
  • Foster cross-cultural understanding and dialogue between diverse player and staff population
  • Maintain accurate records and consistent communication with players and staff
  • Evaluate curriculum and support curriculum improvements

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, foreign language, curriculum and instruction, or related field
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish
  • Teaching and classroom management experience
  • Ability to work irregular hours to meet needs of staff and students
  • Experience utilizing online platforms and educational software to conduct virtual lessons
  • Ability to develop creative solutions with limited supervision
  • High level of demonstrated honesty, integrity, and professionalism
  • Strong work ethic, communication, and organizational skills
  • A passion for teaching and the ability to build a trusting relationship with players

Additional Qualifications (Not Required)

  • Understanding of and passion for the game of baseball
  • Experience teaching foreign language in context for professionals
  • Experience working with out-of-school youth and other non-traditional students
