Job Description

At SmartRent, we're at the forefront of innovation, merging technology with impactful storytelling. We are seeking a dynamic Senior Manager, Managing Editor who will not only produce compelling content but also steer our talented team of freelance writers toward new heights of creative excellence. This role is pivotal in shaping our brand's narrative across various channels and platforms, ensuring our voice remains consistent and influential in the tech landscape. In this position, you will report to our VP, Digital Marketing and work alongside our team in our Scottsdale, AZ headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Content Creation and Strategy: Act as a player/coach while creating (50%)  and overseeing (50%) the production of engaging, informative content for a wide array of mediums including blogs, email campaigns, white papers, social media, and more. Work with the marketing team to develop and execute content strategies that bolster our brand's thought leadership and educate our audience.
  • Team Management: Lead and inspire our network of freelance writers and editors. Manage workflow, assign projects based on individual strengths and deadlines, and ensure a consistent output of high-quality content.
  • Editing and Quality Control: Serve as the primary editor for all content, ensuring clarity, coherence, and adherence to our brand's style guide. Provide constructive feedback to team members, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and skill development.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with marketing, design, product, and sales teams to create content that aligns with business objectives and market needs. Participate in strategic planning with senior marketing leadership to ensure content supports overall company goals.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously seek ways to streamline content creation and distribution processes, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field and minimum 7 years of experience in a writing and editing role within a fast-paced tech or related environment, including supervisory or lead experience, OR Associates degree in related field and at least 9 years of experience in a writing and editing role within a fast-paced tech or related environment, including supervisory or lead experience OR combination of education and experience (a minimum of 7 years of which must be demonstrated responsible experience) equivalency. 
  • Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a deep understanding of creating and distributing editorial content for SEO, social, email, web, etc. Solid experience with AP Style, CMOS and other content standards.
  • Leadership: Proven experience to lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team of writers and content creators.
  • Independence: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in the tech sector, particularly with content related to software, hardware, or digital services.
  • Tools Proficiency: Familiarity with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, Sanity), Google Suite, marketing automation tools (e.g., HubSpot, Marketo) and project management tools (e.g. Hive, Trello, Asana).
  • Multimedia Content: Experience with multimedia content creation, including videos, podcasts, and webinars, is a significant plus.
