Membership Director ASIA

The role…

At Soho House, the Membership & Communications Director will oversee the Asia membership and communications strategy and implementation focused on the acquisition, retention and communication to our members community. This person will be responsible for growing membership and communications for all Houses in Asia, Friends Studios, as well as support the development of Cities Without Houses and digital communities as we continue to grow in the region. 

 

This person will manage their time to handle recruitment and acquiring (30% of time), communications, retention and member inquiries (30%) and on the floor face time with members and their guests (40%). This person is responsible for driving the strategy and achieving the targets for member recruitment and retention, the latter requiring overseeing all elements of the member experiences, including House events, member operations and all member communications.

 

Through the communications strategy, they will ensure that members get the most out of their experience, both in the Houses and through our digital platforms, developing content and opportunities for member connection to make our digital community as vibrant and engaging as the one in the Houses.

 

The Membership & Communications Director will report into the Managing Director for LATAM. They will also work with the Group Membership Director and Chief Membership Officers to ensure we recruit creative, quality members and keep the “magic” throughout our Houses as well as working closely with the Group Membership Director for Cities Without Houses.

 

Main Duties…

  • Recruitment & retention: drive regional membership recruitment through an extensive breadth of personal contacts in the creative industries, work to build and strengthen the Committees and applications and be responsible for hitting quarterly member targets for members in your region. Collect and analyse retention metrics as well as member survey data to better understand the needs and wants of the members across the regions
  • Team Management: successfully recruit, lead and manage a diverse, high performing global membership, events, content and comms team
  • Committees: oversee and be responsible for building, growing and motivating the Membership Committees in your region, ensuring they are of sufficient size and optimally balanced in terms of age, sex, industry and level of experience 
  • Events: oversee the creation, implementation and hosting of regular events and experiences for members across your region, ensuring each event delivers the Soho House magic and promotes member engagement
  • Communication: execute a communications plan for your region, ensuring your members receive relevant and regular content and communication
  • Membership Quality: review all membership applications ensuring all approved members meet the quality and calibre for membership
  • Membership Admin & Introduction: ensure all internal admin processes are followed correctly and all members receive an introduction to Soho House, hosting member introductions as and when required for your region
  • Local outreach: Engage in considerable networking and outreach activity in your region to establish key local individuals, connectors, opinion leaders and inspirational creatives to build brand awareness, spread goodwill and attract new members
  • Managing member behaviour: take the lead in all member behaviour in your region, leading your team and making potentially difficult calls to members regarding behavioural issues, detailing notes of the conversations to be documented.  Ensure all member behaviour/conduct/attire issues are correctly documented and followed up on swiftly.
  • New Openings: work with the wider teams to ensure a successful opening of all new Houses across Asia
  • Presence: Be present in the Houses to support the teams in creating an engaging and friendly experience for all members
  • Cross functional working: Work across all cross-functional teams (operations, design, content, creative, digital, events, partnerships and people & development teams) to deliver the region’s objectives

 

Requirements/ Qualifications:

  • Fluent written & verbal English language skills
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience as a respected leader and leading a large team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to exercise good judgment and solve problems quickly and effectively
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive; an influential, strategic team leader who can positively and productively tackle strategic initiatives and immediate business needs, as well as connect with the local creative community
  • An essential part of the job is being available on a flexible schedule and being willing to work outside “office hours”. For example, nights, weekends and holidays (as needed and when applicable). This may or may not be required on a regular basis but is mandatory when needed
  • This role requires regular travel to various countries in Asia so the flexibility to travel frequently is essential
  • Based in Mumbai, Bangkok or Hong Kong
  • Connected within the creative industries in Asia with a good working knowledge of the culture primarily in India, Thailand, Hong Kong and further in to south east Asia
