POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the Research & Evaluation (R&E) team, the Data Manager leads projects and processes across multiple teams within the national SEO Scholars program, ensuring consistent, efficient, and accurate data collection and management. The position supports database design for Salesforce and integrations between Salesforce and other scholar data systems. The position works with various teams to gather business requirements for database selection, design, enhancement and integration, and works with key stakeholders like the IT department, to translate them into efficient and effective solutions that meet organizational needs. The Data Manager participates in collaborative efforts throughout the year to collect, manage and report on data to support the continuous learning and improvement cycles of diverse teams. The Data Manager builds Salesforce (and other database) reports and dashboards for various audiences and trains and consults with teams to build their own.   The Data Manager is a highly motivated and collaborative leader with the ability to successfully manage multiple high-level responsibilities, and a commitment to providing opportunity to underserved high school students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Collection & Database Management

  • Oversee data collection and storage processes for program implementation and evaluation purposes; collaborate with R&E and other teams to define project plans and data collection timelines; create and maintain data collection and quality monitoring tools for various audiences.
  • Support data model and database enhancements (Salesforce, Brightspace, etc.), in collaboration with key stakeholders like IT, Online Learning, and R&E.
  • Develop custom dataflows, datasets, visualizations and reporting in business intelligence platforms that provide various teams with data to monitor key scholar metrics and evaluate outcomes; use data prep interfaces to join/append input datasets and create aggregated measures to produce output datasets for reports and dashboards.
  • Collect database business requirements from various SEO Scholars teams and, alongside IT, translate them into efficient and effective solutions that meet organizational needs.
  • Manage and support the integration of Salesforce with other data systems through collaboration with key Programs staff (e.g. Recruitment & Admissions, Operations), Curriculum & Instruction staff (e.g. Online Learning), etc.
  • Document data entry and management procedures to ensure data quality over time, and to support cross-functional collaboration and clear handoffs between teams.
  • Make recommendations to various teams on data practices for the student data-related technical systems they use (ex: Zengine, FormAssembly, Brightspace, survey software, Google products, etc.)
  • Identify opportunities, recommend, and execute strategies for streamlining existing databases and processes and using new data tools.
  • Conduct mass inserts and updates of key scholar data into Salesforce and other databases; train staff to conduct their own.

Program Evaluation & Capacity Building

  • Support R&E program evaluation efforts, including analyses, reports, presentations and workshops that facilitate discussion of program monitoring and evaluation results and their implications; support staff in operationalizing learnings from such initiatives.
  • Periodically support the design and implementation of new methods for quantitative and qualitative data collection (surveys, focus groups and interview protocols, observation rubrics, etc.).
  • Create and facilitate training and other capacity building initiatives for staff on best practices around data entry, management and reporting.
  • Serve as SEO’s representative in partnerships or information sharing relationships with peer and other organizations about data management, access and reporting best practices.

Other projects and collaboration

  • Participate in cross-functional collaboration including standing meetings and other special projects.
  • Other seasonal/ad hoc projects, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2-3 years of experience with database management, including leading database development and/or enhancements. Experience as a Salesforce administrator, including process automation and integrations with other systems preferred.
  • Experience creating data assets for reporting using data prep tools like Analytics Studio/CRM Analytics (Salesforce), Domo (Brightspace), Amazon Quicksight, etc.
  • Experience managing technical projects using project management tools like Monday.com, JIRA, etc.
  • Advanced Excel skills and some experience with SQL queries required.
  • Familiarity with R or Python preferred.

The compensation listed in this posting reflects what SEO believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting.
